Missions"If you have Christ in your heart, you must have missions on your mind" A major goal of our church is service to others, reaching out in love with our time, talents, hearts, hands and prayers. We support the work of local, national and international missions through hands-on activities and fundraisers. The Robinsons - Haiti

The Mendon-Haiti Connection, and the Challenges Beyond Port-au-Prince There is not a person reading this column who has not heard about the earthquakes and devastation in Haiti. Our congregation, Mendon Church, has a long history supporting mission work in Haiti. We have a direct pipeline in the support of Bruce Robinson, an engineer-turned-missionary with an organization called CrossWorld. He has served in northern Haiti for more than 25 years; Bruce is also a personal friend of our pastor, the Reverend David L. Smith. Mendon Church has supported Bruce for over 17 years. Ten years ago the congregation purchased a Caterpillar bulldozer and had it air-lifted to Haiti. Bruce has used the bulldozer to fix rutted roads, to improve land for farming, school and church construction. Bruce has explained that thousands of Port-au-Prince residents have fled the capital, returning to the provinces where many of them have roots. Bruce, his wife Deb, and the bulldozer from Mendon have been helping with the transition. Our donations have helped to provide food, clothing, shelter and medical care for these people. One key project has been to put more land into use for raising crops - either though draining wet land or irrigating land that is dry. Most of the international aid has gone to the capital, which is still in chaos. An invitation: The Mendon Church family is in this for the long haul. We invite you to join with us in prayer for Haiti and its people and actively support future projects. We continue to welcome donations throughout the year that help support the Robinsons' ministry in northwest Haiti. If you wish to donate, please make your checks payable to Mendon Church and mark them "Haiti Relief." Our mailing address is Mendon Church, P O Box 188, Mendon, NY 14506. Thank you!
