HOW MANY MEN DOES IT TAKE TO MOVE A CHURCH?
Apparently as many as you need! We received a lovely letter from Mariclare with a heart-warming story about the ten years from the beginning to the end of the moving of the Mendon Church (Presbyterian) that we must share with our readers.
Not only are the members of the Mendon Church grateful and proud of their new spacious building, they are thankful for their own membership and the inspiring way that everyone put "shoulder to the wheel" during those ten years. For instance, Anne, a Landscape Architect for Ted Collins, donated her time to design the landscape for the whole 25 acres, working with church leaders and the Town of Mendon to insure that the landscape would compliment the Mendon countryside.
Other members donated hoses and sprinklers and set up a schedule for caring for shrubs and trees. Local farmers drove their tractors to the site to mow the grass and care for the new lawn. The Church has now hired a lawn service to tend to lawn chores.
But during those long years, the congregation did indeed pull together as a community with commitment and resolve to care for their church. That's what makes Mendon beautiful.
